Bellaire is known as the "City of Homes" as the city is mostly residential, while there are offices along the 610 Loop within the city limits. As of the 2000 U.S. Census, Bellaire's population was 15,642. The city is completely surrounded by Houston and West University Place. In a 2007 Houston Press article said that parts of Bellaire's downtown had "a certain raffish 1950s charm – the Bellaire Broiler Burger, for example.
Bellaire has 14 city-operated parks, the largest being the 7.5 acre Bellaire Zindler Park, located at 5113 Laurel Street which includes a neighborhood pool, two lighted tennis courts, a gazebo, a picnic area, a jogging trail, an open playground, the Bellaire Recreation Center, and the Bellaire Civic Center, which includes auditoriums and meeting rooms. Bellaire holds annual Fourth of July parades and annual "'snow' in the park" Christmas celebrations.
With its beautiful parks, nationally recognized schools and a variety of recreational opportunities, homes in Bellaire are continually in demand. Positioned immediately adjacent to the 610, Bellaire residents have immediate access to Houston's freeway system and quick travel times to the Galleria, Medical Center, Greenway Plaza and Downtown.
